The will be £40m investment into modernising the Tyne and Wear Metro system, this project will happen over the next 12 months. This project will focus on Metro track replacement, the Tyne & Wear Metro station will also be refurbished, which includes new essential technology, the Central Station's Metro ticket hall and platforms will also be modernised. The Tyne and Wear Metro will have a complete refurbishment of the train fleet, the track will be replaced in various areas, it will also include a new rail traffic management system in the metro control room. Along with the Central station, there will be other stations such as Heworth, Gelling and Gateshead Station in which will receive modernisation work.
